The Vzw Huis Beaucarne has received the Hans Vredeman de Vries Prize 2023 for the restoration of the historic grape greenhouse, part of the 18th-century family residence in Ename. The prize is awarded by the Louise Van den Bulcke Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, to projects dedicated to the preservation and restoration of historic gardens and parks in Flanders.
Vzw Huis Beaucarne continues its steady restoration campaigns of the family residence and its surrounding park garden with the project to restore the historic grape greenhouse. This 18th-century greenhouse is one of the few remaining grape greenhouses from that period. The exterior is decorated with painted trompe-l’œil motifs, including a Turkish tent (an exceptional example of the Exoticism style in Flanders). Over the years, the greenhouse has undergone several restoration campaigns and modifications. The current restoration campaign not only aims to secure the greenhouse for the future but also to restore it to its original form. Another remarkable feature is the presence of several original 18th-century grapevines. These have exceptional heritage value and will carefully retain their place within the restored structure, ensuring their preservation for the future. Once the restoration campaign is completed, the grape greenhouse will be accessible to the public.
